I feel like we got spoiled with Man of Steel, and Amir Mokri's cinematography. This new Superman is simply shot for convenience. There's no style or substance to this cinematography. This movie had a stellar cast, specially Corenswet and Brosnahan. Nicholas Hault was fine, however I wish he was a bit more stoic, and methodical. Jimmy Olsen was actually underrated. We absolutely didn't need the Justice Gang in this overstuffed film. This movie felt really long and the fight scenes were edited very sloppily and it was hard to tell what was going on at times. It's clear this is an over correction of tone when compared to Man of Steel. The soundtrack was a bit tryhard, and the actual score was underutilized, ripping off the original Superman: The Movie theme. This film has trouble finding it's own identity, and supplements nostalgia in it's place. Ma and Pa Kent were absolutely a downgrade when compared to Diane Lane, and Kevin Costner. Overall this movie was okay. It's a nice convoluted episode of an animated cartoon come to life. If this is what James Gunn wants for the future of DC I am concerned. Humor cannot save a universe. We need substance.
