Here we go again. Another sequel that ignores the prior movies except the original. Is it a hit or miss? Well that depends. What do you want out of this franchise? Blood, gore, lore? A great horror movie needs to blend all these elements together.

What about Leatherface, and his different portrayals? I like Leatherface best when he gets to be wacky, and animated. The last few times we've seen him he's played the character pretty straight forward. Which isn't a bad thing. Or is it? Have these filmmakers taken the wrong lessons from the prior movies?

The Review:

Minor- Spoilers

I liked the pacing, but I think with a little more development it could've been taken to the next level. Lots of ideas stripped down into a slick, quick story. The kill scenes were effective. The bus scene being the most brutal. I kinda dug the "revamp the town" angle of the film, however they didnt go into the specifics that much. What was that ending though? I get wanting to give an homage to the original, but it totally breaks all the veils of "this could be real", and totally abandons that notion.

Sequel Pitch

Texas Chainsaw Massacre: House of Horror

We pick up in the bloody town of Harlow, mere days following the events of Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022). We see the bus abandoned. Multiple bodies in pieces. Spread throughout the floor of the bus are cell phones soaked in blood. One cell phone rings, then two, then three. All the phones start to ring. Families haven't had contact with their kids/ relatives, and with the live streams turning into a bus murderfest. The small town of Harlow went viral.

Harlow, Texas is all over the news. Tons of Gen Z kids murdered. No suspects. No answers. We are then reintroduced to the original house. A television is broadcasting the events of the massacre. We are then introduced to Leatherface, and his new "misfit family" that's been occupying his house. They are mad at Leatherface for being sloppy, and bringing attention to their town.

A new group of people turn up in Harlow searching for answers. A mix of family members, private investigators, and bounty hunters hired to find whoever did this. The Gen Z element will get toned down. As they were the victims in the previous installment. This mission to hunt down Leatherface will lead the group to the original house. And the house of horrors will begin.

Depending if they want Leatherface to survive again, the group could truly have no survivors. Having the man with the chainsaw continue to hide in the Texas plains undefeated. Or they could put a final stamp in this franchise, and have government agents storm his property, and take him out for good.

The Goal: Back to Basics

Keep the budget low. Lower than the previous movie. Keep it grounded at Leatherface's house. Suffocating the audience. Play up Leatherface's wacky personality, and his extended family.
